so the other day i was waiting on my last table and sort of sat in a lil for part of the next shift's preshift. they were there for a while so i wanted to see what my chatty manager was gabbing about. when i went, she was talking about the new menus.. yup, they've succumbed to finally using the ones with calorie counts. management, who i believe has been trying to stall and appeal, i guess has thrown up its hands to.. ummm.. the law..?.. for now at least.. i think it good/great and exciting.. not cause i think it'll solve the 'america eats too much' problem but because it shows that at least someone sort of cares.. and because of the chatter/comments/reactions it'll, and already has, spur[red]. ..for instance, a woman today gasped slightly to her husband and herself, omygosh, look how many calories are in this salad.. the one she was about to order.. she rethinks her decision for just a moment but proceeds to order the salad anyway. i ask if she wants a half or full size portion. she didn't have to think too hard or at all really and immediately said 'full'. i mean, duh.. that's prolly what she always gets-- they seemed like somewhat regulars.. so much for the impact of the number, huh?.. it's like telling a kid playing with his toy, in that emphatic/enthusiastic way adults talk to kids: woah, look at that flying dog!. ..truly a phenomenon if it were to happen.. he may pause a moment, look up, widen his eyes, only to then proceed to play with his toy and return to his own lil world... o well, i guess it's gonna take more than a flying dog or threateningly large numbers to make us really budge.. funny..
